The Advanced Blackjack Strategy

Basic Blackjack strategy will give you an edge. It will tell you hints on what is left in the deck, such as some probability of what cards will be drawn, and aid you in deciding your Blackjack strategy. It is reported to work quite well amongst Blackjack players. A more advanced strategy known as Advanced Blackjack Strategy. This strategy takes into account a few more factors which will allow you to gain a slightly better edge. There is more advanced card counting, cards that other players have played, and are currently showing on the table, as well, how many decks have been used. To look at these factors in a little more detail, we first need to better understand advanced card counting.

Unlike in our article on Card counting 101 that can be viewed here, we take into consideration the full Blackjack deck as opposed to only the tens. It will take some extra time, but with practice you will be able to count a full deck of cards sometime less then 30 seconds. A quick check to see if your card counting is accurate or not, after you finish counting a deck of cards your total should be 0 as the cards will cancel each other out. There are 3 values that are important when keeping a running count in Blackjack. The first value is for the 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 cards. They are given a value of +1 given they are low cards that may be in your favor. The second value is for the 7, 8, and 9 cards which are given a value of 0. The last value is for the 10 valued cards and the Aces which are given a value of -1. Knowing when a ten valued card will appear is important and therefore these are the most important cards. As with the easy card counting technique, this strategy is little use early in the game, but as the game progresses it will more accurately tell you probabilities to help you with your wager and strategy.

Establishing a count is only one part of advanced blackjack strategy. The other part is knowing how to bet. If a run of tens are shown on the table it may be wise to lower your wager in the next hand as it is probable that less favorable cards will be dealt. After practicing and applying the advanced card counting techniques, you will be able to count more quickly and decide strategies faster. After time and practice you should be able to look at a Blackjack table and determine the count. When experienced counters look at a Blackjack table and see 2, 7, Queen, they automatically know the count is 0. The 2 and Queen cancel each other out and the seven has a value of zero. Once you know this trick and can apply it, you will be able to count more quickly and will find it easier to keep your running count. Like any strategy, the advanced techniques are not fool proof, but they will aide you as you gain skill and experience while playing the wonderful game of Blackjack.
